Roller derby is a team sport for women on roller skates and originated in Austin, Texas. Roller derby is all about speed, perseverance and tactics. It is a contact sport played by two teams of five members who all skate the same direction on a flat track. A game consists of several short matches (“jams”) in which a player from either team (the “jammer”) tries to score by passing players from the other team. Both teams do their best to help their own jammer as much as possible while hindering the other team’s jammer – in this way, everyone plays both attacking and defending all the time.

Do you love action, speed and are looking for a unique team sport? Then go play roller derby at the Suck City Rock’n Roller Dolls. Twice a year a Fresh Meat program starts; for 15 weeks you will learn all about roller derby in terms of techniques, the rules and how to do it physically on roller skates. You don’t need any roller skating experience to join and they have materials on loan for beginners.
